Submission Information and Author Guidelines for 2009 Issue
Submissions are due May 15, 2009. These guidelines differ stylistically from articles printed in past issues, so please review them carefully. Submissions that do not follow the guidelines will be returned to the authors for correction prior to further consideration.
Articles should be between 3,000 and 10,000 words in length. Our preferred stylistic format is MLA 6th edition. Exceptions to MLA style guidelines are noted in the bullet items below. Use parenthetical references within the main body of your text to give detail regarding quoted sources, and include a Works Cited list at the end with complete reference information. Footnotes should be kept to a minimum, as important information should be incorporated within your article.
Submissions should be prepared as follows:
- Submissions will be accepted electronically, by email, in Word 2004 or earlier Word format. (Docx file format is unacceptable.)
- If you do include any reference notes, use footnotes.
- For your page format, use 1” margins and single spacing.
- Include one line of space between paragraphs, and before and after block quotations.
- Do not justify text.
- Indent each paragraph one tab (.5”). Indent block quotations two tabs (1”) to set them off from the main text.
- Pay particular attention to the MLA guidelines for website citation. Use < > to surround web addresses, and include both the date of site publication (when possible) and the date of researcher access to the site.
- Avoid the use of “he or she”, “he / she”—make your nouns and pronouns plural to avoid sexist language.
Papers accepted for peer review by the deadline of May 15 will receive a response by the end of September. Accepted articles may undergo further revision during the fall before publication in December.
To submit, email a copy of your article formatted according to these guidelines to:
